Indonesia Gov’t Builds 34 Low-Cost Apartment Towers for Educational InstitutionsJAKARTA, LELEMUKU.COM - The Government has announced it allocates Rp101 billion this year to build 34 towers (945 units) of low-cost apartments dedicated for for Islamic boarding schools and higher educational institutions in 31 cities/regencies.

“By building the apartments, we hope to help students to have decent dormitories to help them in their learning process,” Minister of Public Works and Public Housing Basuki Hadimuljono said.

According to Basuki, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo has ordered the Ministry to develop education infrastructure, including students’ housing.

For the record, out of those 34 apartment towers, 10 of them (with the total value of Rp.42.7 billion) are ready to use, while the rest of the towers are still in the bidding process.

Each apartment is equipped with facilities, including electricity, clean water, furniture (tables, dining chairs, guest chairs, beds, and wardrobe), and parking lots.

The apartment towers built this year include one tower (21 units) at Mu’Jizatul Qur’an Al ‘Hasanah Asy-Syafi’ei Islamic Boarding School in Subulussalam City in Aceh province (with a budget of Rp4.6 billion and 51.1% construction progress) and one tower (43 units) at Nurul Huda Foundation in Lampung province (with a budget of Rp8.3 billion and 70.5% construction progress).

Previously in the period of 2005 to 2014, the Government built 537 towers (3,850 units) of low-cost apartments with a total budget of approximately Rp1.7 trillion, while in the period of 2015-2019, the Government built 263 towers (5,743 units) of low-cost apartments. (Setkab)
